If you follow my blog often, you will typically see mostly weddings and engagement sessions, but I couldn’t help but share this adorable first birthday party held in the Maple Lawn Community in Howard County, Maryland. Gia’s parents happen to live right down the street from me and over the course of many neighborhood get-togethers, I’ve come to know her super sweet parents….and of course Gia! So I was obviously super excited to photograph this special event for them. The theme of the birthday party was a luau and her mom, Puja, did not disappoint with all of the details. There were pineapple centerpieces, a custom happy birthday sign, donots that looked like pineapples, a delicious and beautiful cake and cupcakes from Un4gedible Sweets, and so much more! Even their dog Griffin was dressed for the occasion. Throughout the day, Gia was passed around from friend to family member and back to friend and was loving every minute of it. During the cake smash, it took Gia awhile to figure out what she was supposed to do, but once she had her hands in that cake, the beautiful mess insued. She certainly didn’t have a shortage of helpers either. It was adorable and after thoroughly making a mess and I’m certain on a sugar high, it was time for an outfit change for this one-year-old fashionista. Gia will likely never forget this celebration (well she will have pictures to look at at least) and the love of her family and friends that celebrated this day with her.
