I don’t even know where to begin with this New Year’s Eve black-tie wedding…gorgeous…fabulous…oh-so-fun…amazing…did I mention gorgeous? Katie began the day getting ready in a large space in Spinnaker Bay while Hayward and the guys got ready at the Maryland Club. The getting ready areas could not have been more perfect for this bridal party considering there were eleven bridesmaids and twelve groomsmen. I think this might be my largest bridal party to date! Katie & Hayward definitely have a lot of special people in their lives that they are close with and I love that about them. After braving the cold for some bridesmaids’ pictures outside, we headed over to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the wedding ceremony. This church is absolutely stunning! After a sweet ceremony, guests headed to the Frederick Douglass Museum where the reception was held under a large clear tent. During the fireworks, you could look straight up into the sky–amazing! I remember at my consult with Katie, she was describing her wedding as a fun and laid back party and that is exactly what it was. I can not even begin to describe how awesome their band, Party on the Moon, was. And they should be considering that they have played the last two NYE’s at Donald Trump’s party, Eli Manning’s wedding, and at Obama’s inauguration. Bands usually take breaks and the party stops, but not this band. They played one great song after the other and they were so incredibly entertaining. At the end of the night, I told the band that I actually didn’t like them because they were so great that they distracted me from my job and all I wanted to do was watch them and dance along. Between the dancing, the fireworks, the New Year’s Eve party favors, the food by Rouge Catering, and the New Orleans touches, I think this will be one wedding that guests will never forget. And of course, the one and only Beth from Elizabeth Bailey weddings was the one working behind the scenes to make this wedding fabulous. A big thanks to my second photographer Teri Pozniak. I couldn’t have done it without you! I’m so incredibly happy for Katie and Hayward and I’m so honored that I was able to capture their special day. It is so obvious that Hayward absolutely adores Katie and that is something so great to see. I wish these two an incredible life together!
