I had the pleasure of photographing the Net Impact conference held at the Baltimore Convention Center. For those not familiar with Net Impact, it is a community of more than 30,000 changemakers who are using their jobs to tackle the world’s toughest problems. They put their business skills to work for the good throughout every sector, showing the world that it’s possible to make a net impact that benefits not just the bottom line, but people and the planet too. Net Impact chapters can be found at the world’s top graduate business schools and undergraduate campuses. During the conference, business students from all over the US come together to listen to some of the top sustainers in the business world share their knowledge. I must admit, I sort of felt like I was back in MBA school while I was photographing this conference which I loved. Notable key note speakers included Governor Martin O’Malley (who coincidentally, I have photographed before at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure); Wendy Kopp, CEO and Founder of Teach for America; Freeman Hrabowski, III, President of University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Dave Aardsma, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Waste Management, Jonathan Hsu, CEO of Recyclebank; Seth Goldman, President and TeaEO of Honest Tea; Beatriz Perez, Chief Sustanibility Officer, The Coca-Cola Company, Kurt Kuehn, Chief Financial Officer of UPS; Joaquin Duato, Worldwide Chairman of Johnson & Johnson; Lisa Hall, President and CEO of the Calvert Foundation, Jigar Shah, CEO of Jigar Shah Consulting; and finally a very moving speech by Auret Van Heerden, President and CEO of the Fair Labor Association. The weekend ended with a closing reception and a yummy cake from Charm City Cakes. Such a great conference!!
